Melissa Porter is a paralegal with over 15 years of litigation experience in Northern Nevada. She was born and raised in a very small ranching community in Modoc County, California. Growing up, she spent her days riding horses, chasing cows, changing sprinklers and bucking bails. As an adolescent, when she wasn’t working, Melissa spent her time traveling to rodeos in Northern California and excelled in sports, in which she was recognized for by Pete Wilson, Governor of California. Melissa left her small little town after graduating with her 16 class members and moved to the city to attend Santa Rosa Junior College. She missed her Northern California/Northern Nevada roots, and moved to Nevada, which she has since called home. She obtained her Paralegal Studies Certificate from the University of Nevada, Reno. Melissa enjoys the challenges of litigation and trial. She has two children and in her spare time, she stays busy with politics in Nevada and enjoys hunting, archery, gardening, research and reading.
Janeen Russo was born in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Queens, New York. A week after graduating from Richmond Hill High School in July 1985, Janeen began her secretarial career with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. Over the years, Janeen has worked in Manhattan, New York in the mortgage banking field, and worked for a labor and employment attorney for over 11 years in Commack, New York. Janeen relocated to Nevada in January 2016 with her two kittens, Binx and Gracie, by driving from New York to Reno and has joined our firm bringing 31 years of experience to Kent Law. Janeen has two adult children that live in New York with Janeen’s eight cats and Corgi dog, Daffy.
John Ellis is a law clerk with Kent Law, and he is a graduate of Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon. John completed his undergraduate education “with highest scholarship” at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. In 1991, John received two Certificates “With Distinction” from the University of California in Davis, California, in Microcomputer Office Systems Management and in Computer Studies and Data Processing. At the age of 19, John was employed as a systems programmer for the Artificial Intelligence Group at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, California, and he currently is an alumnus of SRI International. John has over 37 years of experience in legal research and writing, and since 1991 he has lived and worked in Reno.
