Debt Collection Litigation

Steve began collecting debts as a new lawyer for his family’s businesses in 1980 and has developed an expertise in this area of law over the last 35 years. While at Vargas and Bartlett Steve handled collection of deficiencies on automobile repossessions for Ford Motor Credit. Over the years Steve has handled a wide variety of debt collection cases from million dollar debts to thousand dollar debts. There are three parts to debt collection law: first, where possible using pre-judgment remedies which involve seizing property before judgment; second, obtaining a judgment expeditiously; then third, collecting the judgment. Steve is particularly experienced with execution on judgments–the process of finding then seizing money or property to satisfy a judgment. Eventually Steve became a recognized expert in collection law, teaching seminars on this subject to other lawyers on multiple occasions, most recently is a January 2013 Washoe County Bar Seminar. Below is a copy of the materials for this seminar.
